Hi Natalia, tell us, what attracted you to your role and working at The Grove?
I came to work at The Grove as my best friend was working here at the time and recommended it. Just from the hotel website I could tell it would be a great place to work, with many different departments and employees from all walks of life. I was intrigued, so I applied. I am sure I will stay here for long time.
How long have you worked here and what roles have you worked?
In 2014 I joined The Grove as a Room Attendant, then after around six months of experience I became a Trainee Floor Supervisor. I am the type of person who likes to constantly improve and challenge myself so I was proud when I eventually became a Floor Supervisor. A couple of years later, after more training, I applied for the Senior Housekeeper position.
What’s the best thing about working here?
It’s the people. Despite the fast-paced environment, we all stick together and work fantastically as a team. There are smiling faces everywhere you turn, which says a lot about the work. I like the diversity of the workforce too – there are many people with different nationalities and backgrounds, which makes The Grove an interesting place to work. Another great thing about working here is the opportunity for career progression.
What does a typical day look like for you at work?
It varies with each shift. When I start at 7am I prepare the paperwork for all of the housekeeping team – the managers, supervisors, room attendants and porters. I also spend some time checking the rooms after maids have been in, making myself aware of VIP arrivals for the day, or training housekeeping staff. When I am on the training shift I try to spend time with all staff on duty. I also help to make training videos which we play on the TV outside the Housekeeping office which staff can look at.
What career-related opportunities or training have you had since joining the team?
During my time at The Grove, I have had many opportunities for personal growth and career progression. For example, I recently completed the Successful Supervising course and did a session in building self-confidence. I have also achieved an NVQ qualification in housekeeping.
What advice would you give to someone looking to join the housekeeping team?
We take pride in the continual development of our team members, so if you like a challenge and want to have a successful career in the hospitality industry, The Grove is the employer for you. Be ready with an open mind to learn from those around you and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Where do you see yourself in your career in five years’ time?
I do hope that I will still be here. I wish to learn new skills and continue to develop myself, perhaps in a different job role.
