1. Exercise during your break
It is no secret that physical exercise is not only good for the body, but also for the mind. On your next break, ditch the social media and head out for a brisk stroll around our verdant gardens instead. You’ll feel better for it.
2. Learn something new
At Ralph Trustees we have plenty of training courses available for those who wish to progress their career or enhance their learning. Allowing your mind the opportunity to grow and learn new things is key to building confidence.
3. Practise mindfulness and meditation
If you tend to feel anxious when at work, wherever you are and whatever you are doing, just stop and take a moment to close your eyes and breathe. Deep breath in, deep breath out, restoring calm to your senses.
4. List positive outcomes of the day
As you wrap up the day and head home after your shift, take a moment to think about all the good things that happened during the day. What made you smile? Did something happen to make you feel good about yourself? Make a note and remind yourself whenever you feel like you’re struggling.
5. Check in with your line manager
Feeling unsure about your current performance and find yourself feeling stressed? Schedule some time with your manager and ask them for honest, constructive feedback on your work. Chances are, they’ll sing your praises!
6. Create a to-do list
Stress in the workplace often stems from the myriad of jobs needed to be done. Instead of allowing things to build up and overwhelm you, make a list of things that you wish to achieve by the end of the day, ticking them off one by one as you complete them. Not only will you feel accomplished but your productivity will boost your confidence in the workplace.
7. Appreciate your colleagues
It’s always nice to feel appreciated, so offering gratitude to a co-worker for helping you out at work will never go amiss. Likewise, we all welcome the remarks of “You’re doing a great job!” as it makes us feel valued and appreciated in the workplace. So, next time you see your colleague who you’ve noticed go the extra mile in their work, let them know how brilliant they are. Knowing you’ve made someone else happy will inevitably put a smile on your face too!
8. Don’t suffer in silence
A problem shared is a problem halved. If you do find yourself struggling mentally, there are people who will want to help you. We have some fantastic Mental Health First Aiders around the hotel. Alternatively, if you don’t feel like opening up right away, our Wellbeing group on Workplace, open to all employees, offers inspiration and ideas to help improve your mindset.
