Four years ago, Alex was fresh out of college where she studied Level 2 & 3 in Beauty Therapy. Since then, she has progressed from Spa Therapist to Senior Lead Therapist and is a valued member of the senior team at Sequoia.
When a vacancy came up for a Spa Therapist at The Grove I checked out the website and immediately liked the look of the hotel, spa and grounds, so I applied…
When you start your career here as a Therapist the training period is great – it’s very thorough, really focused on high standards and how to create the very best experience for the guest – and it never stops! We constantly do refresher training, learn new treatments and as a senior member of the team I test and help to mentor the more junior members. I started off doing the ESPA treatments and then learned the Natura Bissé ones. The constant training keeps us fresh, sharp and interested.
I won’t lie, it’s a tough job! It’s physically demanding and not as easy as it looks so you need to take care of yourself, but the hard work is very rewarding and I get a real sense of satisfaction from transforming the guests I see – they come in stressed and I can take the weight off their shoulders with a massage and make them leave feeling refreshed. I’ve had some very prestigious clients to look after too – even the stars need somewhere to relax!
So, what would I say to someone looking for a career as a Therapist? Come to The Grove! It’s a big team in an award winning spa, and it’s a rewarding role with fantastic benefits. The perks are different to any other spa as you get the benefit of being part of a hotel as well, so we have annual loyalty rewards in the form of overnight stays, discounts at the restaurants and use of the leisure facilities.
I hope to stay at The Grove and progress in my career – I’d like to be a head therapist or trainer one day and I think that this is a place where I can get the right support to do that.
